Requirement
As part of its drive to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the further education (FE) system, the QIA (Quality Improvement Agency) wanted to produce an extensive programme to support providers by linking organisational strategies for quality improvement, continuing professional development and the Subject Learning Coach model.
The QIA identified the following priority areas:
- Construction and the built environment
- Developing the expert learner
- Engineering
- Learning Mathematics in context
- Science
- Society, health and development
Solution
BDP Learning led a consortium to deliver the Teaching and Learning Programme consisting of subject-specific multimedia teaching and learning resources. These were developed through a process of research, collaboration with educational practitioners and learners, and trials and pilots of the materials.
The resources were co-developed with teachers and learners. A wide range of employers were also involved to ensure that the resources foster the skills and attitudes people need to succeed in employment.
In 18 months, from concept to dissemination, BDP Learning produced an extensive range of materials for subject-specific areas and generic topics, which include booklets and activities for learners, teachers and managers, self-assessments, videos, CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs, and a comprehensive website comprising over 4,700 screens.
